Weekly Feedlot – finished cattle trade recap for week ending July 30
The finished cattle trade was 1-2.5 higher this week.
The weekly weighted average cash steer price for the five area which includes TX, NE, CO, KS and IA feeding areas was 2.36 higher at 117.00 and compared to 114.64 the previous week.
The cash dressed steer price was 186.08 compared to 184.75 the previous week which was 1.33 higher. The five area total cash str and heifer volume was 85,344 head compared to 83,300 the previous week.
Five area formula sales totaled 187,342 hd compared to 200,182 the previous week. The five area avg formula price was 186.62 compared to 190.07 the previous week.
Nationally reported forward contracted cattle harvested was 25,000 head compared to 29,000 head the previous week. Packers have 205,000 head of Forward contracts available for Aug and 213,000 for Sep and 217,000 head for Oct.
The latest avg National steer carcass weight for week ending Jul 16 was 5 higher at 880 lbs compared to 884 lbs last year. We’re still 11 weeks in a row lower than last year.
Choice-Select spread was 7.97 on Friday about 2.5 dollars lower than the previous week but that compared to 2-4 spread last year during July.
