Tyson Foods spokesperson Gary Mickelson told Reuters in an e-mail today that blizzard conditions in the central United States shut down three Tyson Foods pork processing facilities and one beef plant. The plants effected are in Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska.
Winter storm Kayla is rolling through the Midwest and Central Plains. Meteorologist Allen Motew at QT Info. said in his morning forecast that increasing wind speeds and heavy snow will occur from Nebraska and north-central Kansas through Iowa to southeastern Minnesota and Wisconsin today and tonight. 5 to 11 inches and local totals to 15 inches are still expected similar to the forecast of Monday and late last week
Travel will be disrupted and livestock will be stressed today. Colder air will follow the central U.S. blizzard bringing a better environment to winter wheat in the central and southern Plains, Midwest and Delta where temperatures have been quite warm in recent days, however no crop threatening cold is expected this week.
